By 1805, the Emperor Napoleon is coming to the peak of his powers. No land force appears able to stand against him and the French armies are triumphant all across Europe. The story takes place on three continents and is told through the usual winning blend of solid historical fact and fast-paced adventure fiction.

"Take, Burn or Destroy" is the latest title in Peter Youds' "Ties of Blood" series, but chronologically is a prequel. The book takes many of the characters developed through the Peninsular War in the first nine books and gives us insight into their earlier careers. Historically the book covers the British operations against the Cape of Good Hope, the campaigns in Argentina, and the taking of the Danish fleet.

I enjoy Mr. Youds' writing. I think he sets a good pace and his characters are believable and engaging. When he uses interaction between the characters to inform the reader of the historical setting he does so efficiently without bogging down the narrative.

I have read all of the "Ties of Blood" series and heartily recommend them to readers interested in the Napoleonic Wars as well as those with a less specific interest.
